Daw's structures, of varied forms and materials, chart the course of disasters, travels, myths, confusions, ruminations, stasis, and change.  Mapping, as process and concept, is the underlying content. Her public installations, environmental interventions, meticulous artists' books, layered diagrams, performances, and skywritten maps over ancient sites, have been seen throughout the USA and Europe.

Seventeen years ago I left the field of child development to return to making art. I now have a private practice making custom books, boxes and creating artists’ books and collages. I do accept private commissions. My work is exhibited regionally and is in several university collections. I also teach regular classes in hand bookbinding to adults and children. Most of my books are concerned with ideas or issues in my personal life presented so that, if successful, they touch the private lives of the viewers.

I chose to work in the book and box format because its nature and size facilitates this intimate form of communication.

Paper has been my primary medium to express my interest in layering, texture, and transparency. I make prints, monotypes, etchings, and collages. In the collages I use papers that have had a former life, printed or painted on for other purposes. In their juxtaposition, I reach for a sense of surprise and playfulness. With kozo, an asian fiber I process myself from plant material, I make long translucent hangings. Small delicate webs are made of the same material that I dip into baths of pulp. Another aspect of papermaking I use is called pulp painting.

Another aspect of papermaking I use is called pulp painting. Lush, rich paintings are made from using very fine linen pulp, pigmented heavily, as one would oil paint. In a different vein are my murals. Perhaps related to my degree in Illustration, they are generally realistic in subject matter. I have painted the walls in homes, schools, hospitals, and the New Haven Children's Museum.
